Africa’s representatives for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup are set to receive a guaranteed $50 million each for participating in the revamped tournament. The four teams representing the continent – Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis, and Wydad Casablanca – will have the opportunity to compete against some of the best clubs in the world.

The tournament has been expanded to include 32 teams, featuring the top 12 clubs from Europe, six from South America, five from North America, four from Asia, and one from Oceania. Africa’s spots will be filled by the best teams from South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco.

FIFA has significantly increased the total prize pool to $2.65 billion, with each team guaranteed at least $50 million plus performance-based bonuses. The winning team will walk away with a staggering $100 million. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised the new format as “innovative, inclusive, and groundbreaking.”

The redesigned tournament will also feature a new 24-carat gold trophy designed by Tiffany & Co., symbolizing prestige and global progress. The competition is scheduled to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, transitioning from its previous annual format to a competition held every four years.

The expanded Club World Cup not only provides a global stage for the best clubs to compete but also offers substantial financial incentives, marking a new era for the tournament. Despite the increased stakes, no African club has ever won the competition since its inception in the 1999-2000 season.

With the stage set and anticipation building, football fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
