Escaped lion attacks mother and children in Lahore
A shocking video has surfaced showing an escaped lion attacking a mother and her two young children on the streets of Lahore, Pakistan. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the ownership and handling of dangerous wild animals.
The terrifying incident unfolded when the lion escaped from a farmhouse in Lahore and was seen leaping over a wall before charging at the mother and her children, aged 5 and 7. The mother attempted to flee, but the lion pounced on her back, causing her to fall to the ground.
While bystanders rushed to help the family, the owner of the lion allegedly stood by and made no effort to restrain the animal. The children’s father reported the owner’s lack of action to the police, leading to the arrest of the individual days later.
Fortunately, the mother and her children sustained injuries to their faces and arms, but they are not life-threatening. The lion, which was kept without a license, was confiscated by authorities and relocated to a wildlife park.
Mubeen Elahi, Director General of the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department, emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations for keeping big cats. Illegal ownership of such animals can result in hefty fines and up to seven years of imprisonment.
Following the incident, the department conducted raids on farms in the region, confiscating a total of 18 big cats that were kept without proper permits. The lion attack has prompted authorities to crack down on illegal ownership of wild animals and enforce stricter regulations to ensure public safety.
Overall, the swift action taken by officials in confiscating the lion and relocating it to a wildlife park highlights the importance of responsible ownership and handling of wild animals to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
