The African Energy Chamber (AEC) – the voice of the African energy sector – congratulates President John Mahama of Ghana on his re-election. President Mahama’s leadership, vision, and dedication to driving economic growth and advancing Ghana’s energy sector have been recognized through his victory.
Ghana has made significant progress in its oil and gas industry under President Mahama’s leadership since the 2007 oil discovery. The country now produces approximately 200,000 barrels per day, positioning itself as a major oil producer in the region. Ghana’s Gas Master Plan aims to attract investments in gas infrastructure, diversify the energy sector, and strengthen the natural gas value chain. The nation’s goal of achieving universal electricity access by 2030 and enhancing petrochemical production presents attractive opportunities for investors and project developers.
Projects like the Tema LNG plant, expected to begin production by year-end with a capacity of 1.7 million tons annually, and the Atuabo II Gas Processing Plant, set to be completed by 2025, demonstrate Ghana’s commitment to maximizing its natural gas potential, expanding gas infrastructure, and reducing reliance on imported fuels. Additionally, offering new oil blocks for exploration in the Western and Eastern Basins is a proactive step by the government to attract new investors, increase exploration activities, and unlock new discoveries.
During the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies event organized by the AEC, a Ghanaian delegation highlighted the country’s reforms positioning it as a regional energy hub. Ghana’s participation emphasized its crucial role in Africa’s energy future. Looking ahead to African Energy Week 2025, the AEC anticipates connecting global investors with Ghana’s energy opportunities and working with President Mahama’s administration to advance the country’s energy ambitions and promote sustainable development.
NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, commended Ghana’s progress towards energy independence and economic diversification, noting the country’s significant potential for growth in the oil and gas sector. The AEC expresses its support for President Mahama in his efforts to transform Ghana’s energy sector and drive economic growth.
In conclusion, the AEC recognizes President Mahama’s re-election as a testament to his commitment to Ghana’s energy sector’s development and prosperity. The organization looks forward to collaborating with Ghana to realize its energy potential and contribute to the country’s sustainable growth.
