A 95-Year-Old Woman Evicted from Her Home After 60 Years
A heartbreaking story has surfaced from Arusha, Tanzania, involving Salima Saidi, a 95-year-old woman who has recently been evicted from the home she shared with her late husband for over six decades. Salima, who helped build the house with her husband 65 years ago, expressed shock and disbelief that her own grandchildren were behind her eviction.
“I have spent more than 60 years in this house, where I got married, raised my children, and built a lifetime of memories. Even after my husband passed away, my brothers-in-law took care of us and ensured that our home was safe until now,” Saidi shared in an emotional interview.
Salima fondly remembered the support she received from her brothers-in-law after her husband’s death, who always made sure she could continue living in the house they had created together.
“I have great respect for my brothers-in-law; they have been there for me and my children since my husband’s passing. He was the youngest in his family. Today, I am facing eviction from my own grandchildren, except for one who stands by me,” she added.
The only grandchild standing up for Salima is Asha Mfaume, who revealed that the eviction was a result of a long-standing legal battle over the ownership of the land. Asha described the situation as unjust and malicious, claiming that her cousins initiated a secret court case, leading to the eviction judgment.
“The legal case is ongoing, but they secretly filed for another case to evict grandma without informing us. The judgment was made without our involvement. How can a case be filed twice, with a verdict reached without both parties present?” Asha questioned.
Salima, deeply attached to the home where she shared her life with her husband, now finds herself in conflict with the very family she once cared for. “It’s heartbreaking to be removed from the house my husband and I worked so hard to build,” she lamented.
Despite her advanced age and the emotional strain of the situation, Salima continues to receive unwavering support from Asha, who is determined to seek justice in the ongoing land dispute.
