Edo Queens Secure Dramatic Victory Over Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in CAF Women’s Champions League

In a thrilling encounter, Edo Queens staged a remarkable comeback to end Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ dream of retaining their CAF Women’s Champions League title. The Nigerian side secured a 2-1 victory, booking their spot in the semi-finals in dramatic fashion.

Sundowns took the lead in the 24th minute with a goal from Melinda Kgadiete, assisted by Karabo Dlamini. The South African team held onto their lead until stoppage time when Emem Essien scored a late equalizer, setting the stage for a tense finish.

With the game hanging in the balance, Edo Queens delivered a decisive blow in added time. Mary Mamudu capitalized on a defensive lapse from a set piece, scoring the winning goal and securing a memorable victory for the Nigerian side.

Prior to the match, Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo had encouraged the team to bring the trophy home. The hard-fought win has now put Edo Queens in contention for their first-ever CAF Women’s Champions League title.
