China cannot allow Russia to lose Ukraine war, foreign minister tells EU: report

China’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, made shocking revelations during a meeting with EU officials in Brussels. According to sources, Wang admitted that Beijing cannot afford to see Russia lose the Ukraine war. He stated that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been a blessing for China as it keeps the United States focused on Moscow and Kyiv, diverting attention away from the Pacific region.

The revelation came as a surprise to European officials, who accused China of supporting Russia’s war effort. Despite Beijing’s denial of providing military support to Russia, EU officials claim that Chinese companies have supplied Moscow with essential components for building drones and weapons used in the war.

China’s alignment with Russia in the Ukraine conflict dates back to 2022 when President Xi Jinping stood as an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While Xi has not openly endorsed Russia’s actions, he has emphasized the strong partnership between the two nations and blamed the invasion on western aggression.

During the meeting, EU’s high representative for foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, called on China to cease all material support to Russia’s military industrial complex and to support peace in Ukraine. The EU also raised concerns about China’s export restrictions on rare earth minerals and magnets, which are crucial for global defense, energy, and automotive sectors.

Additionally, the EU urged China to use its influence as Iran’s main oil buyer to encourage Tehran to reach a deal over its nuclear program and stabilize the Middle East. The meeting was aimed at laying the groundwork for an upcoming summit between EU and Chinese leaders scheduled for next month.

The admission by Wang Yi underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Ukraine war and highlights China’s strategic interests in the outcome of the conflict. As tensions escalate between Russia, Ukraine, and the West, China’s role as a key player in the global arena is becoming increasingly apparent.
