Lock Jean Kleyn is optimistic about the Springboks’ chances of producing the World Rugby Player of the Year for 2024. The nominees for the prestigious award include Cheslin Kolbe, Pieter-Steph du Toit, and Eben Etzebeth from South Africa, as well as Ireland’s Caelan Doris. The winner will be revealed at a gala event in Monaco on Sunday, with Kleyn expressing confidence in his teammates’ abilities.

The Springboks have had a successful year, winning 10 out of 12 games and clinching the Rugby Championship title. Kleyn, who has been sidelined for most of the season due to injury, is gearing up to make his only appearance for the Boks this year in their upcoming match against Wales in Cardiff.

Reflecting on the nominations, Kleyn highlighted the exceptional talents of his teammates. He praised Cheslin Kolbe as the best all-round rugby player in the world, Pieter-Steph du Toit as a standout performer on the field, and Eben Etzebeth as a dominant force in the tighthead lock position. Kleyn expressed his belief that the recognition is well-deserved and a testament to the hard work put in by the players.

Despite the opportunity to showcase his abilities and compete for a spot in the team going forward, Kleyn emphasized that his focus remains on contributing to the collective success of the Springboks. He stressed the importance of playing for the team, the fans, and his fellow teammates, underscoring the unity and shared goal of representing South Africa with pride.

As Kleyn prepares to take to the field for his sole appearance of the year, he is determined to give his all for the Springboks and make a meaningful contribution to the team’s performance. With a strong sense of camaraderie and a commitment to the common goal, Kleyn is ready to make his mark and help the Springboks finish the year on a high note.
