Former President Joe Biden recently sat down for his first live television interview since leaving office, where he took responsibility for Donald Trump’s return to the White House. During his appearance on “The View,” Biden was asked if he felt responsible for Trump’s victory, to which he responded, “Yes, I do, because, look, I was in charge and he won, so I take responsibility.”

Democratic strategist Kristian Ramos praised Biden for taking responsibility, stating that it was “refreshing” for him to do so. Ramos highlighted the contrast between Biden’s accountability and Trump’s refusal to take responsibility for his actions, including his involvement in the Capitol attack.

Reflecting on Trump’s presidency, Biden criticized his successor for failing to protect the interests of the United States. He specifically pointed out Trump’s handling of NATO and described his first 100 days in office as the worst any president has ever had.

In response to Biden’s interview, the White House issued a scathing statement, calling him a “complete disgrace” and questioning his mental faculties. White House communications director Steven Cheung accused Biden of incoherently mumbling through the interview and suggested that he was being abused by his handlers.

Biden has faced criticism from within the Democratic Party for staying in the presidential race until July, despite concerns about his age and electability. He defended his decision, emphasizing that Vice President Kamala Harris had ample time to make her case to the American public. Biden also addressed Harris’ loss in the November election, attributing it to a campaign of sexism by Republicans.

Regarding Harris’ recent comments on “The View,” where she defended Biden’s record, he clarified that he did not advise her to make those remarks. Biden praised Harris for being her own person and acknowledged her contributions to their administration’s successes.

Biden revealed that he remains in contact with Harris and that she has sought his advice on her future political endeavors, including a potential run for governor of California or another White House bid. Despite the challenges ahead, Biden expressed optimism about Harris’ prospects and emphasized the strength of the Democratic candidates.

Overall, Biden’s candid interview shed light on his reflections on the past and his support for Harris as she navigates her political future. The conversation underscored the complexities of leadership and the ongoing dynamics within the Democratic Party.
