President Joe Biden on Tuesday commended Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his proactive measures in preparing the state for the impending strike of Hurricane Milton in the Tampa Bay area.
During a briefing at the White House, Biden expressed his appreciation for DeSantis’ efforts, stating, “The governor of Florida says he’s gotten all that he needs. I talked again to him yesterday and I said no, you’re doing a great job, we thank you for it and I literally gave my personal phone number to call.”
Despite recent tensions between DeSantis and Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden acknowledged the cooperation and support received from governors across the affected states, emphasizing the need for continued unity in facing natural disasters.
Biden reassured the public that his administration is committed to assisting communities before, during, and after extreme weather events like Hurricane Milton, underscoring the importance of swift and effective response efforts.
Former President Donald Trump criticized the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene, drawing attention to the need for adequate assistance to affected individuals and regions. However, the Biden administration has already allocated significant resources to aid those impacted by the storm.
Hurricane Milton, projected to be one of the most severe storms in Tampa in a century, is set to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane, posing significant risks to the region.
DeSantis urged residents to remain resilient and united in the face of adversity, emphasizing the state’s strength and capacity to recover from the aftermath of the storm.
The anticipated storm surge in Tampa Bay heightens concerns for potential damage, underscoring the urgency for preparedness and caution among residents.
While Hurricane Helene has already caused devastation in parts of North Carolina and Tennessee, efforts are underway to provide relief and support to affected communities.
