How to Boost Your Phone Signal

In today’s digital age, having a strong and reliable phone signal is essential for staying connected. However, there are still many areas, both rural and urban, where mobile network coverage is lacking. If you find yourself struggling to make calls or use data on your phone, there are several strategies you can try to improve your signal without having to switch networks or invest in expensive signal boosters.

### Hold your phone in different positions

Before jumping to conclusions about poor signal strength, consider the possibility that your phone’s case or your grip may be interfering with the signal. Some phone cases, especially those made of metal, can block the internal antennas of your phone. Try removing the case and using speakerphone mode to avoid directly touching the phone. Additionally, experiment with holding your phone in different positions or making calls from the highest point in your home to see if signal strength improves.

### Change to another mobile network

If your current network provider is not delivering satisfactory coverage, consider switching to a different network. Most network providers offer coverage checkers on their websites where you can input your location and see how strong the signal is in your area. Requesting a free pay-as-you-go SIM card from a different network can also help you test the coverage before committing to a full switch.

### Use Wi-Fi calling

If you have a strong Wi-Fi connection at home, Wi-Fi calling can be a game-changer. This service allows you to make calls over your broadband connection instead of relying on a weak mobile signal. Most major UK networks offer Wi-Fi calling, but if your provider does not support it, you can use popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as alternatives.

### Use a mobile phone signal booster

For those who prefer not to switch networks or rely on Wi-Fi calling, a signal booster can be a good investment. These devices amplify weak signals, but it’s important to note that only Ofcom-licensed boosters are legal to use in the UK. Make sure to check for compliance before purchasing a signal booster.

### Make your own mobile network

For a more unconventional approach, consider using devices like goTenna Mesh or satellite communicators to create your own mini network for messaging and emergency communication. These devices work in areas with no cellular signal and are ideal for outdoor activities or remote areas where traditional networks may not reach.

By implementing these strategies, you can improve your phone signal and stay connected even in areas with poor coverage. Whether you’re at home, at work, or out in the wilderness, there are solutions available to ensure you always have a reliable connection.
