Aston Villa Bolsters Squad with Loan Signings of Asensio and Disasi
Aston Villa has made significant additions to their squad with the loan signings of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Asensio and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi for the remainder of the season. These signings come on the back of the arrivals of Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen, and Andres Garcia during the winter transfer window.
As part of the deals, Villa will cover the wages of three-time Champions League winner Asensio, with no option to make the move permanent. They have also paid a £5 million fee to secure Disasi on loan, also without a purchase clause.
The club recently offloaded Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr in a £71 million deal and centre-back Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for around £8.45 million. Additionally, Villa loaned 21-year-old winger Samuel Iling-Junior to Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.
On Sunday, Villa finalized the loan signing of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, with an option to buy for £40 million. Earlier in the window, Donyell Malen joined from Borussia Dortmund for £19 million, while Andres Garcia arrived from Levante for a reported fee of £6 million.
Asensio Strengthens the Attack
Asensio, 29, has scored seven goals in 47 appearances for PSG since his move from Real Madrid in 2023. The Spanish international played a crucial role in PSG’s Ligue 1 triumph last season but has seen limited game time this term. He was also part of Spain’s Nations League-winning squad in 2023.
Villa manager Unai Emery expressed the need for reinforcements following a recent defeat to Wolves. Asensio praised Emery’s coaching style, stating that it was a key factor in his decision to join Villa.
Asensio could make his Villa debut alongside Rashford against Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round, a match scheduled for Sunday.
Disasi Eases Injury Woes
Villa secured the signing of Disasi ahead of Tottenham, providing Emery with a much-needed defensive option. The 26-year-old chose Villa over Tottenham and will help fill the void left by the injured Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings.
With Disasi unavailable for the upcoming match against Tottenham due to being cup-tied, Villa will rely on his experience and defensive prowess in future fixtures.
