Presidential Aspirants Must Defeat Adebayo First, Says Former SDP Candidate
Adewole Adebayo, a former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently addressed the speculation surrounding Nasir El-Rufai’s political intentions and the overall dynamics within the party. Adebayo emphasized that any presidential hopeful within the party must surpass him to realize their ambitions.
During an appearance on Breakfast Central, Adebayo clarified that his discussions with El-Rufai have not centered around a potential presidential bid. He highlighted El-Rufai’s reputation for honesty and transparency, stating, “If he’s coming to run, he will tell you. If he’s not running, he will tell you.”
Adebayo acknowledged the fluid nature of political aspirations but reiterated his stance on the competitive nature of leadership within the SDP. He emphasized the party’s commitment to democracy and fair competition, stating that any individual vying for leadership must do so on equal footing.
He further stated, “So anybody who wants to be president or the basis of other people not wanting to be president, he’s not a serious person.” Adebayo invited potential candidates to join the SDP, emphasizing the party’s willingness to provide a level playing field for all contenders.
With a firm commitment to democratic values and fair competition, Adebayo’s remarks shed light on the internal dynamics of the SDP and the standards set for aspiring leaders within the party.
