All Hands on Deck by Arunma Oteh Wins BCA African Business Book of the Year 2025

The prestigious BCA Business Book of the Year Award for 2025 has been awarded to Arunma Oteh for her groundbreaking book, “All Hands on Deck: Unleash prosperity through world-class capital markets.” Oteh, a renowned Nigerian economist and former World Bank Treasurer, Director General of the Nigerian SEC, delves into the critical role of capital markets in driving Africa’s development in this compelling work.

The award ceremony took place at the Institute of Directors in London, where Oteh received a trophy and a cash prize of $10,000. The judges praised the book for its sharp analysis and compelling narrative that sheds light on the structural challenges facing the continent and the potential for economic transformation.

Alongside Oteh’s book, Africonomics: A History of Western Ignorance by Bronwen Everill emerged as the runner-up, offering a critique of Western economic policies towards Africa. Toni Kan’s Riding the Storm: The Untold Story of Africa’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic received the second runner-up prize for its depiction of Africa’s struggle during the pandemic.

The Kay Whiteman Memorial Lecture was delivered by Mr. Papa Ndiaye, a founding partner of AFIG Funds and current non-executive Chairman of Ecobank, adding a valuable perspective to the event. The winners shared a total of $17,500 in prize money, showcasing the recognition of excellence in African business writing.

The judges, including respected African business leaders and media executives, emphasized the need for more stories about African business and enterprise. Arnold Ekpe, Chairperson of BCA, highlighted the importance of encouraging more writers and publishers to explore the dynamic business landscape on the continent.
