Ekaterina Alexandrova Claims Fifth WTA Tour Title in Linz Final
Ekaterina Alexandrova, currently ranked 30th in the world, secured her fifth WTA Tour title after a hard-fought victory over Dayana Yastremska in the Linz final on Sunday. The Russian player, who had previously finished as a runner-up in Linz twice in the past six years, emerged victorious after a grueling 2-hour, 13-minute match.
After the match, Alexandrova expressed her joy at finally clinching the title in Linz, a tournament that holds a special place in her heart. She mentioned, “This tournament has always been special for me. I love playing here every time, and now, finally, I’ve made it to the end on my third attempt. I’m delighted, and this place will always remain special and magical for me.”
The match saw Alexandrova dominate the first set with a 6-2 victory in just 30 minutes. However, Yastremska, aged 24, fought back strongly in the second set, winning 6-3 and forcing a decider.
Yastremska, who had an impressive run to the Australian Open semifinals as a qualifier last year, carried her momentum into the final set by securing an early break. Despite this, Alexandrova showed resilience and managed to level the score at 5-5 before eventually raising her game to claim the title.
