AFCON 2025Q: Race For Morocco Enters Final Lap As Africa Teams Return To Battlefield

The countdown to the Africa Cup of Nations is in its final stages as 24 nations battle it out for the remaining spots in next year’s tournament. With only two rounds of qualifying matches left, the competition is heating up as teams fight for their chance to compete in the prestigious event.

So far, seven teams have already secured their tickets to the finals, joining hosts Morocco in the tournament. Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, and Senegal have all impressed in the qualifying rounds and will be looking to make their mark in the competition.

The 35th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The tournament promises to showcase the best of African football talent as teams battle it out for the coveted title.

Let’s take a closer look at the current standings and upcoming fixtures in each group:

Group A:
Tunisia leads the pack in Group A, with Comoros and Gambia still in contention for qualification. Madagascar will be looking to secure their first win in the remaining matches.

Group B:
Morocco has been dominant in Group B, winning all their matches so far. Gabon and the Central African Republic are also in the running for qualification.

Group C:
Egypt has been impressive in Group C, with Botswana, Cape Verde, and Mauritania vying for the remaining spots in the finals.

Group D:
Nigeria is leading the way in Group D, with Rwanda and Benin in contention for qualification. Libya will be looking to secure their first victory in the upcoming matches.

Group E:
Algeria has been a force to be reckoned with in Group E, with Equatorial Guinea, Togo, and Liberia fighting for qualification.

Group F:
Angola has already qualified from Group F, with Sudan, Ghana, and Niger battling it out for the remaining spots.

Group G:
Cote d’Ivoire leads Group G, with Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad still in the running for qualification.

Group H:
DR Congo has dominated Group H, with Guinea, Tanzania, and Ethiopia aiming for qualification.

Group I:
Mali and Mozambique are in a top-of-the-table clash in Group I, with Guinea-Bissau and Eswatini fighting for qualification.

Group J:
Cameroon leads Group J, with Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Namibia competing for qualification.

Group K:
Uganda is in pole position in Group K, with South Africa, Congo, and South Sudan battling for qualification.

Group L:
Burkina Faso and Senegal are tied at the top of Group L, with Burundi and Malawi playing for pride.
