Kwame Asare Obeng, A Plus, Calls Out Christian Council and CSOs for Silence on Ghana’s Challenges

Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has taken a stand against the Christian Council and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for their noticeable silence on the issues plaguing Ghana under the outgoing government.

A Plus pointed out the lack of criticism from these once vocal institutions towards President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, despite the numerous challenges facing the citizens. He accused them of only speaking up when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama are in power.

Specifically, A Plus highlighted the ongoing power outages in the country, known as dumsor, and criticized the Christian Council and CSOs for choosing to remain silent. He suggested that they might be waiting to blame Mahama once he assumes office.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, 17 December 2024, A Plus expressed his frustration, stating: “Ghana is currently facing load-shedding, commonly known as dumsor. Despite this, institutions and groups like the Christian Council, civil society organizations, and vocal Akans are silent. They seem to be waiting for John Mahama to take office so they can quickly blame him for bringing back dumsor.”

A Plus urged the Christian Council and other organisations to live up to their moral authority by addressing the nation’s challenges and holding leaders accountable. He stressed the importance of unbiased advocacy.

To the Christian Council: Speak now or forever hold your peace! Be like Christ, who was unbiased and fearless. Do not reserve your voices for only when the NDC is in power. Speak up now and tell the nation the truth—that Ghana is currently experiencing dumsor. That the economy is in bad shape. Do not wait for John Mahama to be sworn in before you start speaking out. You are human beings, not donkeys—act like it!

A Plus criticized the perceived hypocrisy and called for consistency in advocacy, regardless of the political party in power. He emphasized the need for these institutions to stand up for what is right and speak out against the challenges facing the country.
