Margot Robbie Reveals Why She Slapped Leonardo DiCaprio at “Wolf of Wall Street” Audition
Australian actress Margot Robbie recently shared a hilarious anecdote about her audition for the hit movie “Wolf of Wall Street.” Instead of going for the traditional kiss scene with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, Robbie decided to take a different approach.
During a podcast interview on “Talking Pictures,” Robbie admitted that she chose to slap DiCaprio during the audition scene. She jokingly mentioned that her actions could have been considered assault and landed her in jail.
Surprisingly, both DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese loved Robbie’s bold move. She not only landed the role but also earned praise for her unconventional audition technique.
The slap was not scripted, as Robbie revealed. She improvised the action during a scene where she was supposed to throw water in DiCaprio’s face. Instead of following the script and kissing him, Robbie decided to go for the unexpected slap.
After the slap, DiCaprio ad-libbed the line, “come over here and kiss me.” Robbie confessed that she briefly considered kissing the Hollywood heartthrob but ultimately stuck to her decision to slap him.
Despite the tense moment of silence that followed the slap, both Scorsese and DiCaprio burst out laughing and praised Robbie for her bold choice. Robbie, on the other hand, couldn’t shake off the fear of being arrested for her actions.
Robbie recalled thinking, “You’re going to get arrested. This is assault or battery. You will never work again and might end up in jail.” Fortunately, the incident didn’t lead to any legal trouble for Robbie.
Robbie’s role as DiCaprio’s wife in “The Wolf of Wall Street” marked a turning point in her career. The film received critical acclaim and earned multiple Academy Award nominations.
Despite her initial fears, Robbie’s career flourished after the movie, and she became a successful actor and producer in Hollywood. The incident of slapping DiCaprio may have been risky, but it ultimately paid off for Robbie.
