The Ghana Police Service has made a significant arrest of 88 individuals suspected to have been hired by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to provide security in Juaboso, Western North Region, during the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to sources from Pulse News, the suspects, consisting of 86 men and two women, were apprehended while traveling on two Metro Mass Transit buses with registration numbers “GN 5148-22” and “GN 5177-23.”

Upon interrogation, the individuals claimed to have been recruited from the Greater Accra Region and other parts of the country by unidentified persons within the NPP to provide security on Election Day. The group, led by 27-year-old Isaac Ankamah, has been taken into custody for further investigation.

This development occurred shortly after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Chairman of the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, warned private security personnel against interfering with the duties of state security officers during the upcoming elections.

During a recent engagement, Dr. Dampare emphasized the sole responsibility of state actors in providing security during the elections. He urged private security personnel not to intimidate or confuse voters, ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process.

Dr. Dampare reassured Ghanaians of the police service’s preparedness for the elections, promising to uphold professionalism and ensure a safe voting environment for all citizens. The IGP reiterated the commitment of the police force to maintain peace and security during the upcoming elections.

As Ghanaians prepare to cast their votes on Saturday, December 7th, the Ghana Police Service remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth and trouble-free electoral process. Voters are encouraged to exercise their democratic right with confidence, knowing that the police are committed to upholding a peaceful election.
