South Africa Condemns Israeli Massacres in Gaza

South Africa has strongly condemned the recent heinous massacres committed by the Israeli Defence Force in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 100 Palestinians, including many women and children. One particularly devastating incident saw 75 Palestinians from two families killed in air strikes on homes in Beit Lahia. Israel’s actions, which included preventing ambulances and rescue teams from reaching the site of the massacre, have been widely criticized.

Tragically, the head of the intensive care unit at Kamal Adwan hospital, Dr. Ahmad Kahlut, was among those killed in the attacks. The situation in Gaza has been described as “catastrophic” by authorities, with reports of widespread hunger and suffering among the Palestinian population.

South Africa is calling on Israel to immediately cease its genocidal aggression, forced displacement, and starvation tactics against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The country is also urging the UN Security Council to facilitate the swift entry of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2735. This resolution calls for an immediate and complete ceasefire, as well as the empowerment of the State of Palestine to fulfill its responsibilities.

This statement was distributed by APO Group on behalf of the Republic of South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
