A Robbery Suspect Sentenced to Decade in Prison for Firearms and Robbery Charges
In a shocking turn of events, a robbery suspect in Tumu, northwestern Ghana, has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars with hard labor after being convicted on firearms and robbery charges.
Dramatic Arrest
The Upper West Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest following a fatal motor accident near Bugubelle on July 30, 2025. During the investigation of the crash scene, officers discovered ammunition and a weapon in the suspect’s possession, leading to his subsequent arrest.
Confession and Conviction
Under interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the crimes and provided information about ongoing robberies in the municipality. He also revealed the identities of his accomplices, who are currently at large. The suspect was charged with robbery, preparation to commit robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Upon pleading guilty to all charges, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo.

The Regional Command emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating such crimes and urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the apprehension of the remaining suspects.
