South Metro Fire Rescue and Littleton Police were called to the scene of a vegetation fire on the Mary Carter Greenway Trail near Mineral Avenue and Santa Fe Drive on Monday evening. At the time of their arrival, it was not yet clear if any structures were in danger from the blaze.
The Mary Carter Greenway Trail spans 8 miles along the South Platte River, stretching from Chatfield State Park to Englewood. This popular trail is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts for its scenic views and recreational opportunities.
Earlier in the day, South Metro Fire Rescue had responded to multiple grass fires along the High Line Canal, which were deemed suspicious. One of the fires, located at 1181 S. Parker Road, had spread to a commercial building housing several businesses. Fortunately, all occupants were safely evacuated, and the fire was brought under control by 3 p.m.
Details about the cause of the fires and any potential damage were not immediately available. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incidents to determine the source of the blazes.
