Pieter-Steph du Toit, Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, Ox Nche and Damian de Allende Nominated for SA Rugby Player of the Year Award
The annual SA Rugby Awards are set to take place in Cape Town on Thursday night, where the best Springbok player of 2024 will be honored.
The Springboks had an outstanding 2024 international season, winning 11 out of 13 games and showcasing dominance in world rugby. Their success included triumphing in the Rugby Championship, sweeping their Northern Hemisphere tour, and giving opportunities to 51 players as they build towards the 2027 World Cup.
Three out of the four World Rugby player of the year nominees were from the Springboks, with Pieter-Steph du Toit ultimately winning the award for the second time in his career. The other nominees, Eben Etzebeth and Cheslin Kolbe, also had remarkable seasons.
Among the nominees for the SA Rugby Player of the Year award are Pieter-Steph du Toit, Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, Ox Nche, and Damian de Allende. While Du Toit is the favorite, Etzebeth and Kolbe are strong contenders, with Nche and de Allende also deserving recognition for their performances.
Coach Rassie Erasmus, who missed out on the World Rugby coach of the year award, will be vying for the SA Rugby coach of the year title against Jake White and Philip Snyman.
In addition to the main awards, categories such as young player of the year, women’s player of the year, and team of the year will also be recognized. Exciting talents like Libbie Janse van Rensburg, Cameron Hanekom, and Jordan Hendrikse are expected to be in contention for various accolades.
The SA Rugby Awards will celebrate the best of South African rugby in 2024 and set the stage for the upcoming international season, generating excitement among fans and players alike.
