In April 2025, the African Space Agency was inaugurated in Cairo’s Space City with the primary goal of unifying the continent’s 55 nations under a shared vision for space-driven development. The agency aims to coordinate and implement Africa’s space ambitions while managing its policy and strategy to harness the transformative power of space technology.

One of the key objectives of the African Space Agency is to leverage satellite data to enhance agriculture productivity and improve climate resilience across the continent. Additionally, the agency will focus on expanding internet connectivity and exploring innovative technologies such as space-based solar power to address energy challenges in Africa.

Moreover, the agency is poised to drive economic innovation and foster global partnerships that will benefit Africa’s space industry. By investing in training programs and establishing a dedicated academy, the agency aims to cultivate a new generation of space leaders who will propel Africa’s space sector to new heights.

According to projections, the international space economy is expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2035. With the establishment of the African Space Agency, Africa has the opportunity to actively participate in this burgeoning industry and reap the economic benefits that come with it.

Overall, the African Space Agency holds the promise of unlocking vast opportunities for the continent, positioning Africa as a key player in the global space arena rather than a mere observer.
