While Nigeria is often painted as the bogeyman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) – particularly since President Bola Tinubu’s accession to power and his muscular intransigence towards Niger – Abuja is not without its dissenting voices.
One is that of Yakubu Gowon, the 89-year-old former president of Nigeria who presided over the country’s bloody civil war from 1967 to 1970.
