A 17-year-old boy, Angelo Carlin, has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a 16-year-old boy in the head during an attempted drug rip-off on the Southwest Side of Chicago. The victim, a Cicero resident, is now facing a long road to recovery.
According to prosecutors, Carlin arranged to buy marijuana from the victim through social media. They agreed to meet in the 8100 block of South Scottsdale on March 28 for the transaction. However, things took a violent turn when Carlin pulled out a gun and demanded all of the victim’s marijuana.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the victim tried to drive away, but Carlin fired a shot that struck him in the back of the head. The bullet exited through the boy’s right eye, leaving him blinded. The victim then crashed into a parked car in his impaired state.
Surveillance footage of the incident helped investigators identify Carlin, with three witnesses positively identifying him from the images. As a result, Judge Susana Ortiz granted the state’s detention request for Carlin.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers associated with illegal drug transactions and the potential for violence that can erupt in such situations. It also highlights the importance of vigilance and caution when engaging in any form of illicit activity.
