The Black Stars’ recent struggles continued to spiral downwards on Monday as they suffered a 1-2 defeat against Niger in their final 2025 AFCON qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ousseini Badamassi and Oumar Sako found the back of the net for Niger, while Jerry Afriyie’s goal was a mere consolation for Ghana, who failed to secure a single win throughout the qualifiers.
With this disappointing performance, Ghana will miss out on the upcoming tournament in Morocco after finishing at the bottom of their group, which also included Angola, Sudan, and Niger.
Otto Addo’s Confrontation with Ghanaian Sports Journalists
Following the team’s dismal display, head coach Otto Addo faced a barrage of criticism from journalists during his post-match press conference.
In a tense atmosphere, the 49-year-old was bombarded with probing questions from all sides, with one particular exchange becoming heated between Addo and Adom FM presenter Kobby Stone.
Stone insinuated that Addo’s strengths lay more in scouting than coaching, leading to a contentious back-and-forth between the coach and the journalist.
Defending himself, Addo retorted, “Twelve years of coaching and six months of scouting. Now I ask you: what am I?”
Stone bluntly responded, “Then I think you’re good at scouting than coaching, because in coaching you’re not good at all!”
The exchange has divided opinions, with some viewing Stone’s remarks as disrespectful, while others argue that Addo’s lackluster performance as a coach does little to shield him from criticism.
