Ghana’s Black Stars emerge victorious against Mali in 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, secured a crucial victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers by defeating Mali in a thrilling match at the Accra Sports Stadium. The game, which took place on Monday, September 8, saw Alexander Djiku scoring the lone goal in the 49th minute, propelling Ghana to a well-deserved win.

Coach Otto Addo made strategic changes to the starting lineup, bringing in Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Thomas Partey, and Kwasi Sibo for the game against Mali. The first half of the match saw limited scoring opportunities, with only one shot on target from Mali. However, Ghana had a promising chance when Antoine Semenyo’s shot narrowly missed the target after a brilliant run by Mohammed Kudus.

As the teams headed into halftime deadlocked, it was Djiku who broke the stalemate just three minutes into the second half. The goal came off a precise cross from Jordan Ayew, following a corner kick that was initiated by Caleb Yirenkyi’s effort hitting the crossbar. Ghana’s defense, led by Djiku and Salisu, put up a resilient performance to protect their lead, with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare making crucial saves when called upon.

Thomas Partey’s timely clearance further solidified Ghana’s defense, denying Mali any chance of equalizing. Despite late pressure from the opposition, the Black Stars held their ground and sealed the victory, moving three points clear at the top of Group I, surpassing Madagascar in the standings.

The win not only boosts Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but also showcases the team’s resilience and determination on the pitch. As the Black Stars continue their quest for World Cup glory, fans can look forward to more exciting matches and memorable moments from this talented squad.
