Woman Hospitalized After Opening Fire at Liquor Store in Back of the Yards
A shocking incident unfolded at Goldmore Food & Liquors in Back of the Yards, where a Riverdale woman, Angeles Flores, allegedly opened fire on a group of people playing gaming machines. The violence left multiple individuals injured, including Flores herself.
According to prosecutors, surveillance footage captured Flores pulling out a gun, loading it, and then shooting at the victims at the liquor store located at 1949 West 51st Street. The gunfire resulted in a 22-year-old man being hit in the chest, a 48-year-old man in the abdomen, and a 61-year-old woman in the left elbow. The men are in critical condition, while the woman is reported to be in good condition.
In a retaliatory act, someone from the group fired back, injuring a 46-year-old man in the hand and hitting Flores in the heel and thigh. Despite being wounded, Flores managed to seek medical help at Rush Hospital, where she was identified by police based on the surveillance footage.
Due to the severity of the incident and Flores’ actions, Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. approved the state’s request to detain her until trial, citing her “complete disregard for human life.” Flores faces charges of three counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in an occupied building. Notably, this is her first criminal charge in Cook County.
The community is left reeling from the violence that erupted at the liquor store, underscoring the need for peace and safety in neighborhoods across Chicago.
