Kaizer Chiefs right back Dillon Solomons has emphasized the importance of securing a spot in next season’s MTN8, labeling it as ‘disastrous’ if the team fails to make the cut. As they gear up for their final Betway Premiership game against Polokwane City, Solomons acknowledges that only a victory will likely secure their spot in the top eight of the table.
The Chiefs have been on a poor run, going eight consecutive Premiership games without a win. Despite clinching the Nedbank Cup, their first trophy in a decade, and securing a spot in the Caf Confederation Cup for next season, Solomons stresses the significance of finishing within the top eight.
Reflecting on their season goals, Solomons expressed disappointment in falling short in the league. “Winning the Nedbank Cup was fantastic, but we want to be competitive in every competition next season. Not making it to the top eight would be disastrous for us,” he stated during a recent interview at the Chiefs Village.
Since their last Premiership victory against Magesi FC on March 4, the Chiefs have managed to defeat the league’s top three teams in the Nedbank Cup. However, their league form has been lacking, with only four points out of a possible 24 in recent matches.
Solomons attributed their struggles in the league to a mentality shift, highlighting the difference between cup and league games. He believes that if they can replicate their cup game mindset in league fixtures, their performance will improve significantly.
With the pressure mounting ahead of their crucial match against Polokwane City, Solomons acknowledged the significance of the upcoming game. Describing it as one of the biggest games of the season, he likened it to a cup final and emphasized the importance of securing all three points.
As the Chiefs prepare to face Polokwane City at FNB Stadium, Solomons and the team are fully aware of the task at hand. The pressure to secure a victory and secure their spot in the top eight will undoubtedly push them to give their best on the field.
