Rock star Jack White’s recent criticism of Donald Trump and the president’s lavish Oval Office makeover has ignited a heated exchange with the White House.
Communications Director Steven Cheung fired back at the White Stripes frontman after White described the current decor as “vulgar.”
“Jack White is a washed-up, has-been loser who is resorting to posting nonsense on social media due to his lackluster career,” Cheung retaliated against the 12-time Grammy winner in a statement to The Daily Beast.
“It’s clear that he has been pretending to be a real artist, as he fails to grasp, and frankly disrespects, the grandeur and significance of the Oval Office within ‘The People’s House,’” Cheung continued.
White stirred controversy by posting a photo on Instagram of Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, criticizing the Oval Office redesign as resembling “a professional wrestler’s dressing room.” In his caption, White expressed his disdain for the gold leaf accents and gaudy aesthetic, likening it to a scene from the movie ‘Idiocracy.’
Despite Cheung’s scathing response, White has not engaged in further dialogue on the matter.
While Trump often responds to celebrity criticism, he has yet to address White’s comments or Cheung’s retort.
This is not the first time White has denounced Trump, previously labeling him as “scum” and a “wannabe dictator.” He also condemned the unauthorized use of his band’s anthem, “Seven Nation Army,” in a pro-Trump video last year.
The ongoing feud between Jack White and the White House underscores the deep divide between the music industry and the political sphere, highlighting the power of celebrity influence in shaping public opinion.
