The Okaikwei Central parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Sadiq Abdulai, has made it clear that he will not back down despite the Electoral Commission (EC) overturning his earlier victory. He is determined to be sworn in as a member of the 9th Parliament on January 6th, asserting that the will of the people cannot be subverted by the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa.
In a bold statement, Baba Sadiq emphasized that the NDC candidates whose victories have been overturned will not be deterred from assuming their rightful positions in Parliament. He expressed confidence that none of them are cowards and issued a warning to those who seek to prevent them from taking office.
Addressing the Majority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Baba Sadiq declared that their efforts to retain power will not succeed. He emphasized that the NDC is a party of revolution and will not be intimidated by any attempts to suppress their voices.
Despite the controversial re-collation conducted by the EC, which saw the NPP win 7 out of the 9 disputed constituencies, Baba Sadiq remains resolute. His victory in Okaikwei Central was overturned in favor of the incumbent MP, but he remains steadfast in his determination to be sworn in.
The results of other constituencies, such as Tema Central, Obuasi East, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Nsawam-Adoagyiri, also saw wins for the NPP. However, results for Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North were suspended due to unresolved issues.
In a powerful speech, Baba Sadiq reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people and standing up for the democratic process. His unwavering resolve to take his seat in Parliament on January 6th is a testament to the resilience of the NDC and their dedication to upholding the will of the people.
The NDC’s fight for justice and representation in Parliament continues, and Baba Sadiq’s courage in the face of adversity serves as an inspiration to all who believe in the power of democracy. As the political landscape evolves, one thing remains certain – Baba Sadiq and his fellow NDC candidates will not be silenced.
