The Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avogo, has sentenced Mohammed Ali to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for firearms possession and robbery-related offences in the Sissala East Municipality.
According to a statement signed by ACP Peter Kamasa, Deputy Upper West Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, the sentence was handed down on Monday, August 11, after Ali pleaded guilty to all charges.
Ali came to the attention of the police following a fatal motorbike accident at Bugubelle in the Sissala East Municipality on July 30, 2025. Responding officers discovered ammunition and offensive weapons at the accident scene. Upon interrogation, Ali admitted to possessing the items and confessed to having knowledge of ongoing robberies in the municipality.
He was subsequently charged with robbery, preparation to commit robbery, and possession of a firearm without lawful authority. The convict also identified accomplices, who remain at large.
The police have assured the public of ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspects and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding residents, urging continued cooperation with security agencies to maintain peace and safety in the region.
