Visa, one of the world’s leading card payment processors, has taken a significant step towards driving financial inclusion in Africa by making strategic investments in four African startups. This initiative is part of Visa’s larger plan to invest $1 billion in the continent’s fintech ecosystem. The selected startups are Oze, Orda, WorkPay, and OkHi, which were chosen from the first cohort of Visa’s Africa Fintech Accelerator program.

The Africa Fintech Accelerator program was launched in June 2023, with the aim of supporting and uplifting innovative solutions that promote money movement, empower merchants and small businesses, and enhance financial inclusion in Africa. The program provides mentorship, technology credits, and networking opportunities for startups, ultimately helping them connect with potential investors. The second cohort of the accelerator program is currently underway, with startups like Raenest, Beem, and E-Doc gearing up to pitch their ideas during the upcoming Demo Day in December 2024.

Visa’s strategic investments in these African startups not only demonstrate the company’s commitment to fostering fintech innovation but also highlight its dedication to driving financial inclusion across the continent. By supporting the growth of the fintech ecosystem in Africa, Visa is paving the way for sustainable economic development and empowering the next generation of fintech leaders.

The engagement of Visa in the African fintech landscape underscores the immense potential of the region and the opportunities it offers for driving digital transformation. Through its investments in promising startups, Visa is playing a crucial role in accelerating financial inclusion and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized businesses in Africa.
