Sanlam Investments is excited to announce its sponsorship of the upcoming Africa’s Green Economy Summit (AGES) 2025, set to take place from February 19-21, 2025, at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town. AGES is a prestigious event aimed at connecting global investors with innovative green economy projects and businesses across Africa, spanning from small startups to large-scale national infrastructure endeavors.

Carl Roothman, the CEO of Sanlam Investments, expressed his enthusiasm for the theme of AGES 2025, which focuses on “Building a Climate Resilient Africa: Catalysing Investment and Innovation in the Green and Blue Economies”. Roothman emphasized the alignment of this theme with Sanlam’s commitment to sustainability.

AGES provides a unique platform for investors to engage with high-impact initiatives in Africa, with last year seeing investments totaling over US$1.4 billion in more than 30 green projects. This year, AGES aims to emphasize investments in solutions addressing critical issues such as clean energy, resilient infrastructure, and climate change, while offering investors attractive prospects for returns.

The summit will feature prominent figures in sustainability and finance, including Abel Sakhau from Sanlam Group, Andrew Johnstone from Climate Fund Managers, Ibrahim Shelleng from Nigeria, Harsen Nyambe from the African Union, and other distinguished experts. These leaders will offer valuable insights and guidance to shape Africa’s green economy and accelerate its transition to a climate-resilient future.

AGES 2025 will delve into topics such as the potential of green hydrogen in Africa, exploring opportunities for investment and partnerships to leverage renewable resources for sustainable energy solutions. Additionally, a pre-conference masterclass will focus on navigating carbon market opportunities to optimize carbon revenues and drive impactful climate action.

With 2024 being declared the warmest year on record by the World Meteorological Organisation, the urgency for climate action is paramount. Roothman highlighted key focus areas for 2025, including renewable energy expansion, green hydrogen leadership, capital harvest through agricultural cultivation, inclusive climate finance, sustainable investment practices, and blue economy initiatives.

AGES 2025 offers a unique opportunity to connect, collaborate, and accelerate the green economy across Africa. By bringing together global capital, innovative solutions, and visionary leadership, the summit aims to play a pivotal role in advancing Africa’s green transition.

Roothman emphasized the need for actionable commitments towards green investments, particularly in South Africa, which boasts optimal conditions for such initiatives. AGES provides a platform for meaningful dialogue and concrete commitments to drive lasting impact.
