The US military plane carrying 205 deported Indians has landed in Amritsar as part of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants. The C-17 military aircraft departed from an airport in Texas, with each deported individual onboard being “verified” through New Delhi’s involvement in the process. This marks the beginning of what is expected to be a series of flights bringing back illegal Indian immigrants from the US.
President Trump’s tough stance on illegal immigration has led to the deportation of individuals from various countries, including Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. The first wave of deportations involving Indian nationals coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the US, his first since Trump’s re-election.
Reports suggest that India and the US have identified over 18,000 Indian migrants who entered the US illegally. Prime Minister Modi reportedly assured President Trump of India’s cooperation in repatriating these individuals. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has expressed India’s willingness to facilitate the return of Indian nationals living unlawfully abroad, including in the US.
President Trump has emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal immigration, stating that the US is actively locating and deporting illegal aliens to their countries of origin. The Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated India’s stance against illegal immigration, citing its connection to organized crime.
The ministry spokesperson emphasized that India will cooperate in verifying the nationality of individuals and facilitating their return if they are found to be Indian nationals staying unlawfully in foreign countries. The US Embassy in New Delhi has reaffirmed the US’s commitment to enforcing border security and removing illegal migrants, sending a clear message that illegal migration will not be tolerated.
The deportation of Indian nationals from the US underscores the global issue of illegal immigration and the efforts being made by both countries to address it. As India and the US work together to repatriate illegal immigrants, it highlights the importance of cooperation in ensuring proper documentation and legal immigration processes.
