UAE President Honors Chinese Officials for Contributions to COP28 Success
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, recently awarded the Zayed the Second Medal to His Excellency Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, and Xie Zhenhua, China’s former Special Envoy for Climate Change. This prestigious honor was in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the success of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which was hosted by the UAE in 2023.
The award ceremony took place during a special reception hosted by His Excellency Hussain Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, in honor of the Chinese officials. The reception was part of their visit to the UAE-China Friendship Festival, organized by the UAE Embassy in Beijing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
This gesture highlights the strong partnership between the UAE and China in addressing global challenges such as climate change. Both countries have demonstrated a commitment to working together towards a sustainable future and tackling environmental issues on a global scale.
We commend His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for recognizing the valuable contributions of Minister Huang Runqiu and Xie Zhenhua to the success of COP28. Their efforts have played a significant role in advancing international cooperation on climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
