The sentencing hearing for Axel Rudakubana, the British teenager who committed a horrific crime last summer, took a dramatic turn when he interrupted the proceedings by screaming “I feel pain” in court. Rudakubana, now 18, was removed from the courtroom at Liverpool Crown Court after his outburst disrupted the prosecution opening.
The defense team for Rudakubana informed the court that he had not eaten for several days and had consumed very little liquid during that time. They expressed concerns about his ability to handle the high-pressure situation of the sentencing hearing. However, the judge was reassured by medics present in court that Rudakubana was fit to attend the proceedings.
Despite the reassurance, Rudakubana’s legal team requested a second opinion regarding his condition. As he was escorted out of the dock, a family member of one of the deceased children called him a “coward.”
Rudakubana had pleaded guilty to the killings of three girls and the attempted murder of 10 others during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. He also stabbed eight other children and two adults who tried to intervene. A total of 15 other girls witnessed the horrifying events unfold.
In addition to the violent acts, Rudakubana was found to have possession of an al-Qaida training manual and the deadly poison ricin at his home near the crime scene. These disturbing findings added to the severity of his crimes.
The teen committed these heinous acts just days before his 18th birthday. Despite his previous refusal to speak in court, Rudakubana broke his silence when he was read the charges and pleaded guilty to each one.
The shocking nature of Rudakubana’s crimes and his behavior in court have left a lasting impact on the community. The sentencing hearing continues as the court determines the appropriate punishment for his actions.
