Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu to Attend Inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu will be heading to Accra, Ghana on January 6, 2025, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7, 2025. This announcement was made by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga in a statement released on Sunday.
The incoming Ghanaian President, John Mahama, previously served as the 12th president of Ghana from 2012 to 2017 and was re-elected in December 2024. He will be taking over from President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has been in office from 2017 to 2025.
President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Ghana comes as a result of an invitation extended by President Mahama, who had visited Tinubu in Nigeria in December. Onanuga emphasized the strong personal relationship between Mahama and Tinubu, mirroring the robust bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
In his capacity as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will be among the African leaders in attendance at the inauguration ceremony. He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other high-ranking officials.
