Three more inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail have been captured by authorities, bringing the total number of recaptured escapees to eight out of the original 10. The recent arrests include Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, and Jermaine Donald.
Lenton Vanburen was apprehended in Baton Rouge and is now back in custody. He was initially incarcerated on charges of parole violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, and illegal carrying of a weapon. Vanburen will now face additional charges related to his escape.
Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were arrested in Walker County, Texas, after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through the Huntsville area. Donald was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and obstruction of justice. Tate, on the other hand, was jailed on charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm by a felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, motor vehicle theft, and multiple drug offenses. Both Donald and Tate will also face additional charges related to their escape.
The trio was part of a group of 10 inmates who made a daring escape from their Orleans Parish jail on May 16. As of now, Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous. Massey faces charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle, and a parole violation, while Groves faces multiple counts of attempted second-degree murder and battery of a correctional facility employee.
In addition to the escapees, 13 individuals have been arrested for allegedly aiding the inmates in their escape. The latest accomplice to be arrested is 21-year-old Diamond White, who assisted Antoine Massey. Other individuals who have been arrested for aiding the escapees include Lenika Vanburen, Patricia Vanburen, Tyshanea Randolph, Lenton Vanburen Sr., Angel McKey, Casey Smith, Cortnie Harris, and Connie Weeden.
Weeden, 59, allegedly provided cash to Jermaine Donald via a cellphone app and is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact. The authorities are continuing their search for the remaining two escapees and are urging the public to report any information that may lead to their capture.
