Africa Tourism Partners (ATP), in collaboration with UN Tourism, BDO, AfCFTA, and host partner Teams Africa, is gearing up to launch the 7th edition of the Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge (AYTIC). The virtual launch is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The upcoming Africa Tourism Innovation Summit and Challenge will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 10 to June 13, 2025. Over the past few years, South Africa, Rwanda, Ghana, and Namibia have hosted the summit and innovation challenge, with Kenya being the next destination. Kwakye Donkor, CEO of Africa Tourism Partners, expressed his optimism about the partnership with TEAMS Africa and the support from the Kenya Tourism Board and other private sector partners for the upcoming Summit.
The Summit, organized annually by ATP in collaboration with UNWTO and BDO, aims to promote intra-Africa trade in tourism services among African youth and highlight youth-led tourism businesses across the continent. The event will feature desktop exhibitions showcasing youth empowerment initiatives, SMEs in tourism, travel technology, fintech, and social entrepreneurship. Additionally, there will be opportunities for business-to-business engagements in tourism trading services for various stakeholders in the industry.
The Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge (AYTIC) targets young individuals up to the age of 35, with post-graduate students also encouraged to participate. This initiative provides a platform for young innovators, entrepreneurs, and students to present their innovative ideas, technological solutions, and social entrepreneurship projects that could attract investors and venture capitalists.
Winners of the challenge will have access to the Africa Tourism Innovation Hub, located at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). This hub offers mentorship opportunities and connections with potential funders, fostering a conducive environment for research, innovation, and business development.
Young Africans and postgraduate students are encouraged to enter the Challenge, with the platform set to open on December 10, 2024, to receive entries.
