Controversial Curriculum Teaches Texas Students George Washington Was a Terrorist

Students in taxpayer-funded schools across Texas will soon be learning that George Washington was a terrorist and that Christian missionaries allegedly kidnapped Native Americans and converted them to Christianity. This shocking information comes from an Ethnic Studies course for high schools that has sparked outrage among conservative members of the State Board of Education.

Julie Pickren, a Republican member of the board, expressed her dismay at the content of the curriculum, calling it a “sad day for Texas.” Despite a 10-5 majority of Republicans on the board, four members from the party joined Democrats to pass the controversial lessons.

According to Pickren, the course materials refer to George Washington as a “terrorist leader” and label American troops during the Revolutionary War as terrorists. Additionally, the curriculum alleges that Christian missionaries kidnapped Native American children and forced them into re-education camps to convert them to Christianity. It also claims that Congress paid U.S. soldiers to scalp Native Americans.

Board member Brandon Hall also voiced his opposition to what he described as a “woke un-American indoctrination course.” He criticized the curriculum for promoting Critical Race Theory, anti-American themes, and historical inaccuracies. Hall highlighted the course’s emphasis on land acknowledgments as a way to honor indigenous peoples, questioning the arbitrary nature of such acknowledgments and accusing supporters of the course of prioritizing indoctrination over historical education.

The State Board of Education reportedly suspended its rules to approve the curriculum without public notification, preventing any objections from being raised by concerned citizens. The decision to implement the controversial lessons has sparked a debate about the role of education in shaping students’ understanding of history and American values.

As the controversy continues to unfold, critics of the curriculum are calling for a reevaluation of the content being taught in Texas schools. The debate over the portrayal of historical figures like George Washington and the treatment of Native Americans underscores the importance of ensuring that students receive accurate and balanced education.
