Texas High School Teacher Arrested for Alleged Relationship with Student
A former Texas high school teacher, Molly Colleen Spears, 35, has been arrested for an improper relationship between an educator and a student. The incident reportedly took place on June 12, 2023, and Spears was charged with second-degree offenses. The arrest comes a year after she was indicted, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Spears, who taught arts and language at Barbers Hill School in Mont Belvieu, is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a male student. She allegedly used text messages to arrange meetings with the student, whose age has not been disclosed.
After resigning from her position in June 2023, Spears’ teaching certificate was listed as “inactive” in September 2024 due to an ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct. The Texas Education Agency records indicate that she has been under scrutiny for her actions.
Despite being indicted by a grand jury in February 2024, Spears was not arrested until recently. Her defense attorney, Christopher L. Tritico, stated that she was unaware of the charges until two days before her surrender to the Chambers County Jail.

Spears was released on $50,000 bond after surrendering to authorities. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison for her actions. The Barbers Hill ISD Police Department has not provided any comments on the matter.
Notably, the school district previously made headlines for suspending a black student with dreadlocks for violating the dress code, sparking a debate on discrimination and bias within the educational system.
