Woman Arrested for Setting Home Ablaze, Causing Highlands Lake Fire in Teller County
In a shocking turn of events, a woman named Lacey Tillitt has been arrested for setting her home on fire near Divide, which then escalated into the Highlands Lake Fire in Teller County. The incident took place on October 28, 2024, and Tillitt now faces a fourth-degree arson charge, a Class 2 felony, as per the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.
The repercussions of Tillitt’s actions were severe, with over 700 homes being threatened as the fire spread rapidly. The entire Highland Lakes area had to be evacuated, and surrounding neighborhoods were placed on pre-evacuation orders to ensure the safety of residents in the vicinity.
For three days, the evacuation efforts were in full swing, with approximately 15 firefighting and medical agencies coming together to combat the blaze. Firefighting aircraft, as well as county and state law enforcement, provided support to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
