Edo Queens Shock Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in CAF Women’s Champions League

On Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were left stunned as Edo Queens of Nigeria secured a dramatic 2-1 victory, knocking out the defending champions from the CAF Women’s Champions League. Queens displayed resilience as they came back from a goal down to not only secure their place in the semi-finals but also eliminate the reigning champions.

The match seemed to be going in favor of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, with Melinda Kgadiete giving them the lead in the 24th minute. However, the game took a dramatic turn when Emem Essien scored the equalizer for Queens in added time, leaving Sundowns in a precarious position. The final blow came from Mary Mamudu, who capitalized on defensive lapses to score the winning goal, sealing a memorable victory for Edo Queens in the dying moments of the match.

Meanwhile, in another Group B fixture, FC Masar secured a 2-1 win over Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), earning themselves a spot in the semi-finals. The debutants have impressed with their performance and will now face AS FAR Rabat in the upcoming semi-final clash.

Edo Queens, on the other hand, will be gearing up to face TP Mazembe in their semi-final encounter. The stage is set for an exciting showdown as both teams look to secure a spot in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The unexpected results and thrilling matches in the tournament have kept fans on the edge of their seats, showcasing the talent and competitiveness of women’s football on the African continent. As the semi-finals approach, football enthusiasts eagerly await to see which team will emerge victorious and lift the coveted trophy.
