Erwin Saavedra and Mamelodi Sundowns Part Ways Amicably
Recent reports from Mgosi squad indicated that Erwin Saavedra’s time at Mamelodi Sundowns has reached its conclusion. The departure of Matias Esquivel, who was recalled from his loan at Club Atlético Talleres, necessitated Sundowns to create space for another foreign player on their roster.
With an influx of South American players including Esquivel, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcelo Allende, Arthur Sales, and new addition Lucas Suárez, Saavedra found himself surplus to requirements at the club.
It has been revealed by Phakaaathi that Saavedra and Sundowns have mutually agreed to part ways, allowing the Bolivian international midfielder to seek opportunities back in his home country. Despite still being under contract with Sundowns until the 2024-25 season, Saavedra is said to have attracted interest from clubs in Bolivia.
Since joining Sundowns in 2022, the 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team due to injuries. His limited appearances include only one Betway Premiership game against Polokwane City and two matches in the Caf Champions League against Mbabane Swallows and AS Maniema Union respectively.
Details of the formal announcement are expected to be disclosed once all necessary paperwork has been finalized. Saavedra’s departure marks the end of his brief stint with the Tshwane giants, paving the way for a new chapter in his career.
As the football world awaits Saavedra’s next move, it is clear that his time at Mamelodi Sundowns has come to a close, with both the player and the club moving forward in different directions.
