Chicago police have arrested a 19-year-old man, Emir Esenbekov, after he allegedly robbed two Subway restaurants within a span of 40 minutes on the Northwest Side. Esenbekov now faces two counts of aggravated robbery in connection with the incidents that took place early on June 9 in Norwood Park.

The first robbery occurred at the Subway located at 5232 North Nagle around 1:40 a.m. Esenbekov reportedly handed the clerk a demand note and made off with cash. Just 40 minutes later, he targeted another Subway at 6352 North Milwaukee.

Fortunately, Chicago police were already aware of the first robbery and had stationed themselves at the Milwaukee Avenue location. They spotted Esenbekov, who matched the suspect description, entering and exiting the restaurant. As officers approached him, a store employee informed them that Esenbekov had just robbed the restaurant.

Upon his arrest, Esenbekov made a startling admission to the police, stating, “I robbed Subway.” During a search, officers discovered a water pistol in his hoodie pocket, along with $155 in cash and a note that read, “I have a gun. This is a robbery.”

Judge Shauna Boliker ordered Esenbekov to be detained, expressing concern over his actions, stating that he “terrorizes unassuming store clerks with a water gun and a note.”

It is evident that the swift actions of the Chicago police led to the apprehension of the suspect and prevented further criminal activity. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement and the community in ensuring public safety.
