Vodacom and MTN Launch Affordable 4G Smartphone Offers
Vodacom and MTN are on a mission to bring more South Africans into the digital age with their latest affordable 4G smartphone offers.
MTN’s “Smartphone For All” Campaign
MTN kicked off their “Smartphone For All” campaign in May, targeting prepaid customers who have been using 2G or 3G devices for at least six months. The company has already distributed 5,000 Itel AC51 smartphones priced at just $5.50, a significant discount from the usual retail price of $41. These budget-friendly phones come with a five-inch display, 32GB of storage, and dual cameras. MTN plans to distribute over 1.2 million of these affordable smartphones by the end of 2026.
Vodacom’s Entry-Level Offer
In July, Vodacom also joined the initiative by offering their own affordable smartphone, the Vodacom Kicka 6, for only $3.70. This model, usually priced at $33, features 32GB of memory, 1GB of RAM, and a 5.45-inch screen. Initially targeting long-standing prepaid users in KwaZulu-Natal, Vodacom plans to expand the offer to two other provinces soon.
Bridge the Digital Divide
Both Vodacom and MTN are focused on ensuring that no one is left behind as South Africa transitions to 4G and 5G networks. These initiatives are not just about selling cheap phones; they are crucial steps in bridging the digital divide in the country. By providing access to affordable smartphones, more South Africans can experience the benefits of modern technology and connectivity.
