According to Spotify, South African music has made a significant impact on the global music scene in the past six months. While amapiano remains popular, other genres from South Africa are also capturing the world’s attention.

Spotify’s Head of Music in Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, stated, “The 2025 Global Impact List proves that when collaboration fuels creativity, South African music becomes an unstoppable force. We’re not just seeing global reach – we’re seeing global influence.”

Amapiano’s Dominance and Beyond

Leading the cultural export boom are artists like Grammy award-winning Tyla and DJ Maphorisa. Tyla’s songs, including Show Me Love and Bliss, have reached the top spots on the charts. DJ Maphorisa, known for hits like Uyaphapha Marn and Dlala Ka Yona, continues to make waves globally.

However, it’s not just amapiano that is gaining traction. Artists like Metro FM winner Mawelele with Romeo & Juliet, and Johannesburg duo EASY FREAK with Old School Love, are also making their mark on the international music scene.

Former Idols contestant Dominic Neill and South African hip-hop artist Yanga Chief are also among the top music exports, showcasing the diversity of talent in the country.

Cassper Nyovest’s Hit Song Kusho Bani

Cassper Nyovest’s track Kusho Bani has been a massive success, garnering millions of streams on Spotify and dominating local charts. The catchy tune has even sparked a TikTok challenge called the Hoshkaramaima Challenge, with celebrities like Serena Williams joining in on the fun.

In an interview, Cassper explained the meaning behind ‘Hosh karamaima’ and how it celebrates women’s beauty and character. The song’s popularity both locally and internationally showcases the power of South African music to connect with audiences worldwide.

South African music continues to break boundaries and influence global music trends, proving that the country’s musical talent is truly unmatched.
