President Ramkalawan Leads Familiarization Visit to Seychelles’ Outer Islands
President Wavel Ramkalawan recently led a delegation to three key outer islands of Seychelles—Ile Plate, Desroches, and Alphonse. The visit aimed to provide firsthand insight into ongoing and planned development projects managed by the Island Development Company (IDC), with newly appointed Chairperson Naadir Hassan and CEO Cyril Bonnelame in tow.
The tour included inspections of major infrastructure projects, tourism and conservation initiatives, as well as facilities supporting local economic activities and environmental sustainability. Discussions emphasized IDC’s strategic vision for the islands, balancing economic development with the protection of Seychelles’ fragile ecosystems.
President Ramkalawan reiterated the government’s commitment to responsible island development, praising IDC staff for their dedication to sustainable growth while preserving the natural beauty of the outer islands. He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the government, IDC, and stakeholders to ensure the long-term viability of these projects.
The visit underscores the government’s efforts to strengthen governance and oversight of IDC’s initiatives, promoting the socio-economic progress of Seychelles while upholding environmental sustainability.
