The launch event was attended by Gambella Region Chief Administrator, Ms. Alemitu Umod, who emphasized the positive impact that improved telecommunications infrastructure could have on the region’s social and economic development.

During the event, Umod highlighted the potential of the new 4G network to stimulate business activities, attract investments, and promote entrepreneurship in Gambella. She commended Safaricom Ethiopia for its efforts in job creation, enhanced connectivity, and its commitment to positioning Gambella as an attractive destination for investment.

In a statement, Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO of Safaricom Ethiopia, underscored the company’s dedication to connecting communities across Ethiopia through the launch of 4G services in Gambella. He reiterated Safaricom Ethiopia’s goal of expanding its network coverage to ensure more regions have access to reliable and high-speed internet.

The introduction of the 4G network in Gambella is expected to bring numerous benefits to the local community. Improved connectivity will facilitate better access to information, education, and healthcare services. It will also create new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs, driving economic growth and development in the region.

Safaricom Ethiopia’s expansion into Gambella aligns with its overarching strategy to extend 4G coverage to additional areas, supporting its mission of promoting nationwide connectivity.
